Beare Green is the new project (2022 was the first vintage) of wine educators and owners of Streatham Wine House bar Jimmy Smith and Bethany Paterson and winemaker Sam Hill. Based in Beare Green, Surrey they source grapes from a number of trusted growers in the south of England for their range of wines. In the cellar they are strictly minimal intervention, fermenting without adding yeast, sugar, enzymes or other adjuncts. Their wines are very low in sulphites as well.
From the same vineyard site near Pulburough as the Single Clone Chardonnays, this is a selection of Pinot Noir from the popular 777 clone (originating from Burgundy). This is a light-bodied red (just 10% alcohol) but there is a lovely vibrancy and intensity to the aroma and fruit, fresh raspberries and alpine strawberries like they have just been picked from the plant. Hints of rosehip and lemon thyme add complexity on the nose and the palate has fine tannins and lovely juicy acidity.
