Winemaker Peter Hall looks after 6 hectares in the South Downs national park, he also tends after 40 Lambs that graze the hills and vineyards. The wines are named after friends and family of Peter, he only makes small quantities of each cuvee.

Presenting the latest release from the best-loved winemaker in England. If you don't know Breaky Bottom it's your next task to go and read up on them, because Peter Hall's labour of love is one of the great stories of English wine. Although if you follow us, the chances are you know at least a bit, as Peter's an old friend of ours and we're always banging on about him!

Anyway, on to the wine. Cuvee David Pearson is quite a young release for Peter, from the 2015 vintage. Like all his wines, it's named in honour of a significant figure in his life - David supplied Peter with his first wine boxes and continued to work with Breaky Bottom until he passed away in 2019.

The wine inside the bottom is a great tribute - an IWSC Gold-winning blend of 70% Chardonnay and 15% each of the two Pinots. It's spent the last few years resting happily on its lees and developing heady vanilla and pastry aromas as a result. The fruit is quite ripe on the nose but in the mouth it's so tangy and refreshing. If we were you we'd buy a few bottles and try one every year until they run out - this is a classy sparkler that's in it for the long haul.
