Actor Kyle MacLachlan grew up in Yakima, Washington. His serious interest in wine was sparked when director David Lynch gifted him a bottle of Château Lynch-Bages for landing the part of Paul Atreides in Dune. With his father (a keen gardener and tender of fruit trees) they discovered the wines from Eastern Washington and eventually embarked on a collaboration with Eric Dunham, winemaker in Walla Walla, Columbia Valley. They now produce Bordeaux inspired wines using grapes and oak barrels of uncompromising quality.
The stunning 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend from across top vineyards in the Columbia Valley aged for 22 months in entirely new French oak barrels. This leads to a rich and generous flavour profile, with concentrated black berry fruit complemented by vanilla and spice notes. The tannins are powerful but smooth, suggesting a wine that can develop in the cellar although its vibrant and energetic fruit profile is delightful right now. A nice ribeye off the grill or roast venison would make for majestic matches for this superb Cabernet.
