Formed in 1893, Cantina Andriano are Alto Adige's oldest co-operative winery. In 2008 they joined forces with the wonderful Cantina Terlano on the other side of the River Adige, with their wines now made in the Terlano cellars (they still vinify the Andriano wines completely separately). Their vineyards have more limestone than those of Terlano, giving a lovely spine of freshness and minerality to their wines.
This is a stunning example of how fine Pinot Grigio from Alto Adige can be, a far cry from the often watery wines produced from this grape elsewhere in Italy. Green apples, wild herbs and mineral notes give a lovely fresh impression on the nose which is echoed on the palate, alongside some richer spiced pear and honeydew melon notes. Very elegant and long, it pairs beautifully with poached salmon and samphire, or lighter poultry dishes.
