One of the oldest estates in the Médoc, Château Citran has been producing elegant Haut-Médoc wines for centuries, with the Merlaut family taking ownership in 1996. The estate covers almost 90 hectares, with vines averaging around 35 years old and planted across a varied mix of gravelly and clay-limestone soils.
A classic blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the wine is deeply coloured with a rich purple-red hue. The nose is fresh and fruity, showing strawberry, morello cherry and blackcurrant, while the palate is clean and structured, with generous fruit, good concentration and impressive length.
Matured in a combination of vessels including stainless steel, wood and concrete, with part of the wine undergoing malolactic fermentation and ageing in new oak, it combines classic Médoc structure with approachable fruit. A lovely choice for roast beef, lamb, steak, game or hearty autumn dishes.
