One of Pauillac’s most admired Fifth Growths, Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is renowned for producing wines of remarkable consistency and elegance. The estate, whose history stretches back to the 16th century, takes its name from its position on a “puy” (a small hill) and from one of its earliest owners, Monsieur de Lacoste. Its 55 hectares of vines sit on deep gravel soils, the hallmark of Pauillac’s greatest terroirs, producing Cabernet Sauvignon dominant wines that display structure, depth, and refinement.

The 2005 vintage in Bordeaux is legendary for being warm, dry, and almost perfect for ripening which produced wines with ripe tannins, great concentration, and long-term ageing potential.

A deep, opaque ruby colour leads to an expressive bouquet of cassis, blackberry, cedar, and graphite, layered with hints of tobacco, leather, and violets. The palate is full-bodied and structured, with ripe black fruit at the core, wrapped in firm yet polished tannins. Notes of pencil lead, spice, and earthy minerality bring complexity, while the long finish is persistent, fresh, and classically Pauillac in style.

Still vibrant and youthful despite its maturity, this wine has decades of life ahead. A superb example of Grand-Puy-Lacoste’s ability to punch above its classification, the 2005 is both powerful and elegant. Ideal with roast lamb, rib of beef, or aged hard cheeses.
