Castell’in Villa is one of the most distinctive estates in Chianti Classico, owned by the formidable Princess Coralia Pignatelli della Leonessa. She and her late husband, Riccardo, acquired the beautiful 300-hectare estate in Castelnuovo Berardenga in 1968, including 54 hectares of vineyards alongside olive groves, woodland and the smallholdings that have long been home to the estate’s workers.
The 2018 Chianti Classico is made from 100% Sangiovese, with grapes drawn from different parcels across the estate. Hand-harvested and traditionally aged for around 12 months in large botti casks, it beautifully balances the purity of the fruit with the character of its terroir.
Expect ripe red cherry and plum, complemented by earthy, savoury and gently spicy notes, with fine tannins and a freshness that keeps the wine lively. Time in bottle has added further depth and refinement, resulting in a beautifully harmonious and characterful Chianti Classico.
