Based in the picturesque village of Varrains in the Saumurois, Domaine Clotilde Legrand draws on a lineage of vignerons stretching back centuries, among the earliest recorded producers in the region. The first female winemaker in her family, Clotilde now farms 16 hectares of Cabernet Franc organically, along with a small parcel of Chenin Blanc. The vines average 45 years of age, with the oldest plots dating back to 1937.

The cuvée La Chaintrée comes from low-yielding vines in the famed Les Poyeux sector, of Clos Rougeard renown. This rare terroir within Saumur-Champigny, combining clay with free-draining aeolian sands, is particularly well suited to Cabernet Franc. The wine was matured for three years in 500-litre French oak barrels before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
