Coume del Mas Schistes 2023 is a full-bodied, expressive Grenache from the steep, terraced slopes of Collioure in Roussillon. The estate was founded in 2001 by Philippe and Nathalie Gard, who are dedicated to crafting characterful, terroir-driven wines from the dramatic hillsides around Banyuls-sur-Mer. For Schistes, they work with 30 parcels of old-vine Grenache Noir, all hand-harvested, fully destemmed, and cold-soaked before ageing in tank to preserve purity and freshness.
The wine opens with vivid aromas of red and dark berry fruits, lifted by wild Mediterranean herbs and gentle spice. On the palate it is rich yet bright, combining ripe Grenache fruit with a cool thread of schist-derived minerality. Smooth tannins and a savoury, herbal edge give depth, while the finish lingers with notes of spice, berries, and salty coastal freshness.
