From one of the most celebrated estates in Beaujolais, Clos de la Roilette produces a particularly distinctive style of Fleurie. The Domaine’s history predates the Fleurie appellation itself, and its iconic yellow label has remained virtually unchanged since the 1920s. Look closely and you'll spot the silhouette of a horse's head which is a nod to La Roilette, a favourite racehorse belonging to a previous owner of the estate. The vineyards sit on an unusual combination of manganese-rich and clay soils, giving the wines considerably more structure and power than many of their Fleurie neighbours.

The Coudert family work with old vines, harvesting at full maturity to produce deeply coloured, richly flavoured wines. Aged in century-old oak casks, the 2023 is a wonderfully characterful expression of Gamay, offering classic flavours of strawberry, raspberry and blackcurrant. Less overtly fruity than some Beaujolais, the fruit is concentrated and beautifully defined, with a powerful yet balanced palate, impressive length and a lovely sense of depth. A superb example from one of the region's finest Domaines.

Excellent alongside roast duck, charcuterie, grilled pork, mushroom dishes or a rich vegetable casserole. Serve slightly chilled to bring out its freshness.
