Founded in 2005 by husband-and-wife team Gaëlle and Jérôme Meunier, this small, family-run estate offers an exceptional gateway into the world of artisanal Burgundy. What began with a rented plot in Bouzeron has evolved into a domaine cultivating 30 acres across the Côte Chalonnaise, including prized parcels in Mercurey, Rully, and even as far north as Puligny-Montrachet. While some grapes are still sold to cooperatives, the Meuniers reserve their finest fruit for their own wines, which they have been vinifying and bottling under their own label since 2007.
Their winemaking philosophy is rooted in low intervention and sustainability, with an emphasis on early harvesting for freshness and minimal use of oak to ensure that terroir and fruit remain front and centre. All grapes are hand-harvested and naturally fermented, with careful selection and strict yield control that often exceed even Côte d’Or standards. Production remains tiny—just 2,000 cases in a generous year—yet the wines consistently punch above their weight, delivering vibrant, fruit-forward character and serious precision.
A standout Pinot Noir from the Côte Chalonnaise, this elegant 1er Cru Mercurey offers exceptional quality and value as an alternative to the more famous names of Burgundy. Hand-harvested from clay and limestone soils, the grapes undergo a 10–15 day fermentation using indigenous yeasts before spending 12 months in French oak barrels. The result is a beautifully balanced Pinot Noir, with subtle oak influence supporting vibrant cranberry and redcurrant fruit, underpinned by fine tannins and a fresh, mineral-driven finish.
Concentrated and full of energy, this is drinking wonderfully now, but has the structure and finesse to age gracefully. A superb example of the elegance and potential of Mercurey’s top vineyards.
