A family estate since 1893, the 8 hectares of vineyards are now managed by young brother and sister Guillaume and Sarah Glantenay. Uncommon among Burgundy estates, they have a lot of older vines planted between the 1940s-60s. Caring for these treasured vineyards is a labour of love, and the Glantenays eschew any herbicide or pesticide use in their viticultural practice.
The Volnay Premier Cru Santenots comes from some of these old vines, a plot of less than half a hectare planted in the 1960s within this esteemed vineyard site. Santenots is known for producing wines with more power and weight compared to elsewhere in Volnay, although the Glantenay style certainly emphasises florality, elegance and gentle tannin. Fermented with wild yeast and then aged in 35% new French oak, it has stunning complexity and intensity of flavour atop a silky structure. Aromas of violet, red cherry, cinnamon and forest floor draw you in to a superbly long and seductive palate.
