We’re very excited about this new arrival from Argentina.
Criolla Chica is one of the original grape varieties brought to South America by Spanish colonists (it goes by many names including Pais in Chile and Listan Prieto in the Canaries). While most of it has been replaced with Malbec, Cabernet and the other usual suspects old vineyards of it still remain in Mendoza. Durigutti have access to some of these older plantings, this wine however comes from a new vineyard of Criolla they planted in 2015 to attempt to expand the spread of this historic variety in the region.
Farmed organically and fermented with native yeast in concrete eggs this is a bright and juicy red wine. Floral jasmine and violent scents mingle with red berries and pink grapefruit on the silky palate.
