From the celebrated Hudson Ranch estate in Carneros, this 2019 “Phoenix” is a beguiling red blend made with precision and depth. It comprises 68% Merlot and 32% Cabernet Franc sourced from four distinct vineyard sites, vinified with native yeasts and matured in French oak barrels for 20 months.
Deep garnet in the glass, this wine opens with bold aromas of black plum, dark cherry, cassis and mulberries, followed by notes of tobacco leaf, cocoa, and leather. On the palate it’s plush yet structured, with velvety tannins framing flavours of ripe black fruit, anise, dark chocolate and subtle graphite minerality. The finish is long, vibrant and textured, described by some as a “velvet hammer” that balances force with finesse.
Ideal with grilled rib-eye, braised short-rib, wild mushroom ragù or aged hard cheeses.
