An impressive vintage due to a wet Winter and Spring followed by a very hot August. There was a high concentration and sweetness and low acidity, resulting in a rich and powerful port.
Native port grape varieties are foot trodden in traditional lagares. The wine retains a deep and youthful colour, the nose has intense black fruit characters, with notes of sweet spices, liquorice and vanilla. The palate has structure and concentration, with rich, ripe plum and cherry flavours, more spice and firm tannins.
It is drinking well now, but will age.
