Domaine Georges Noëllat, in the heart of the village of Vosne-Romanee, is a historic estate now helmed by the young and highly talented Maxime Cheurlin, grandson of founder Georges. He took over in 2010 aged just 20 years old, after studying at the Lycee du Viticole and gaining experience at the outstanding Rouget and Gros family domaines. Wines labeled 'Maxime Cheurlin Noëllat' come from fruit purchased from other growers who Maxime works closely with.
Maxime's winemaking style is heralded for the gentle treatment of the grapes, allowing terroir and finesse to shine through. He destems almost all of his red grapes, and allows for a natural extraction without excessive punch downs to achieve deliciously balanced tannins. After aging the wines are bottled without fining or filtration.
While the estate is certainly known primarily for the quality of its red wines, Maxime has shown with this elegant wine from Leully above Nuits-Saint-Georges that he has an excellent understanding with Chardonnay as well.
Saline and chalky, with bright fresh citrus fruits and just the slightest touch of spicy oak (just 20% new barrels are used for this wine). The palate has excellent focus and length, with good weight of apple and lemon fruit and a little creaminess. A charming white Burgundy just calling out for a buttery lemon sole!
