These Syrah vines grow where the Atlantic and Indian oceans collide, at the most southern tip of Africa, on the inhospitable Agulhas coast. The roots go deep and work hard in the Shale and Koffieklip-littered soils. The wine has unmistakable salinity, it is intensely savoury, yet also floral. The grapes are concentrated and bear natural acidity from the cool climate and low rainfall.
A proportion of the fruit experienced whole bunch fermentation developing white pepper notes, before all the fruit was racked to seasoned 300L and 400L French Oak barrels, to balance the acidity and freshness of this coastal wine.
The winemaker, having experienced depression, makes his wines with the philosophy that some of the best things in life emerge from tough times and dark places.
