Founded in 1991, Mountford Estate are one of the premier producers in the small region of Waipara near Canterbury. They grow 10ha of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling which are well suited to the sunny but cool climate and limestone soil.
The 2016 Pinot Noir is a finely textured wine, with a complex savoury bouquet and vivid, pure red cherry fruit. It is now starting to show a little maturity, with some leather and spice notes, but it will comfortably age for another five or more years.
