Nestled in the volcanic slopes of the Mátra region near Gyöngyöstarján, Hungary, the Benedek family have been farming vineyards for three generations. Péter Benedek continues this legacy with a focus on low-intervention viticulture and vineyard parcels planted in free-draining volcanic soils, which preserve bright acidity and mineral character. The “Epreskert” Sauvignon Blanc is grown on steep plots shielded from strong winds and benefits from cool nights and volcanic subsoil. After hand-harvest, the grapes are cold-pressed and then left to ferment and rest on fine lees in stainless steel, preserving purity of fruit and crisp structure.

Pale straw in colour, this wine opens with energetic aromas of green apple, honeydew melon, grapefruit zest, complemented by subtle smoke and flint from the volcanic soils. On the palate it is fresh and vibrant, with layers of pear, lime, and green melon carried on a fine mineral backbone and bright, focused acidity. The finish lingers, crisp and clean, inviting another sip.

A superb companion to grilled sea-bass with lemon and herbs, creamy goat’s cheese tart, or a spring vegetable risotto.
