Sir Peter started his winery in 1983 with a specific mission: to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and with California soul.

Made with grapes from vines planted in 2006 and picked from the southernmost part of the vineyard, which offers the highest sun exposure and the least marine effect. The wine's name, (French translation of wall-enclosed vineyard of the sky) refers to the vineyard's sublime and lofty vista and it's heavily forested boundary, all of this creates a slightly higher vineyard temperature giving the best environment for this more fruit forward style.

The eye is drawn to the rich red ruby hue and you are soon introduced to aromas of black cherry, cassis, strawberry liqueur, as well as overtones of truffle, clove, graphite, and leather. The wine is full-bodied with notes of fruit and spice and is rich, round, and well-balanced. Clos du Ciel has a sensuous, impressively long texture. The wine could easily lay down for 20 years if you could keep your hands off of it!
