The Poggio Scudieri estate in Montalcino is the crown jewel in the range of the historic Tuscan Sensi family. The Sensis are best known for their Chianti, which popularised the straw-wrapped fiasco bottle and became the world's bestselling Chianti. At Poggio Scudieri they are committed to producing the most authentic expression of the unique Sangiovese Grosso clone on Montalcino's famous Alberese limestone soils.

The Rosso di Montalcino comes from careful selection of fruit from vineyards between 250-400 metres above sea level. A long maceration of around 27 days, with gentle pump-overs, ensures the best extraction of colour, tannin and flavour from the skins. The wine is aged for over a year in large oak to soften the edges and help develop the flavour.

Bold and spicy, with morello cherry and plum fruit on the nose. This is a structured and full-bodied wine, with clove and woody notes on the long finish. Certain to impress, especially with beef, in the Tuscan way.
