The Santa Rita Hills AVA is renowned for its cooler climate (by Californian standards) and the European influence on the wine making here.
Tyler Winery uses exceptional vineyard sites. The Pinot Noir grapes for this wine are harvested predominantly from the Santa Rita Hills and topped up with grapes from the Santa Maria Valley.
The wine is pressed first to tank and then to barrel (all French oak, less than 10% new wood.) After a year on the lees, it’s racked, blended and put back to barrel for a few months. Finally the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
The wine has a mineral profile of crushed rock and wet earth, brilliant cherry and blood orange fruit with sweet smoky spices and floral flourishes.
