Duncan Savage, previously the winemaker at Cape Point Vineyards, introduced his own label in 2011 with a goal to produce rock-solid, classic and elegant wines. Through his time at Cape Point, Duncan grew to understand maritime vineyards, which led him to source grapes for Savage wines from maritime and high altitude sites around the Western Cape.
The Syrah grapes are sourced from the Langverwagt farm in Kuils River on the outskirts of Stellenbosch. Decomposed granite soils overlooking Table Bay and False Bay, a perfect home for maritime Stellenbosch Syrah. Matured for 13 months in seasoned 500L French oak barrels,
followed by a further 10 months in foudre before bottling
Expressive aromas of plum, lavender, violet and cola are complemented by the hallmark white pepper spice of Stellenbosch Syrah. The palate is focused and finely structured, with fresh dark fruit, savoury complexity and a long, elegant finish.
