Few producers capture the precision of the Mosel quite like Heymann-Löwenstein. Working some of the region’s steep, slate-rich terraces, the estate is renowned for producing Rieslings of intensity, structure and unmistakable mineral character. The Schieferterrassen cuvée is a perfect introduction to their style.
Schieferterrassen which translates to "slate terraces" is sourced from multiple high-quality, 50 year+ old slate vineyards along the Mosel. This wine reflects the interplay between blue and grey slate soils and although this is considered the "entry level" into the range, this wine exudes class and complexity. Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts, followed by 10 months ageing on fine lees to build texture and depth.
Striking and expressive, with aromas of lime zest, green apple and white peach, underpinned by a smoky, flinty edge. The palate is vibrant and finely structured, balancing crisp citrus fruit with a deep, stony minerality. There’s a gentle weight and texture here, but it’s the electric acidity and long, slate-driven finish that define the wine.
A superb match for fresh seafood, sushi, spicy Asian dishes or goat’s cheese, where its acidity and minerality truly shine.
