Banele Vakele has had an extraordinary journey from growing up in a township, to becoming an assistant wine maker with award winning Duncan Savage, to now making his own wines called Tembela. Tembela in Xhosa means faith, hope and belief, which seems very apt.
This Chenin Blanc comes from an old vineyard in Durbanville, it's a one off as the winemaker has made a different wine in 2022. It was fermented in concrete eggs, before ageing in old oak. This really opens up in the glass, becoming honeyed and aromatic, with tangy honeyed fruit, it's a delicious wine.
