Swartland Tinta Barocca, from a single vineyard planted in 1971.
Hand harvested Tinta Barroca grapes are fermented in lagar for a cool ferment before the grapes are pressed into large format French oak for malolactic fermentation The wine is then racked into old 500L barrels to age 20 months before being blended to tank for 10 months to settle prior to bottling lightly filtered. Only a small amount of sulphur was added.
Redolent purple with black & purple hedgerow fruits, flirtations of salty liquorice, tilled
earth, ripe plum, bramble jam, cocoa nib and floral flirtations - so typical of seriously old vine Tinta. Cloistered fruit and spice follow through from the bouquet all hemmed in by grippy tannins and moreish savoury finish with a twang of liquorice that lingers a while.
