Valravn represents the culmination of over a decade spent building close relationships with growers across Sonoma County, allowing access to some of the region’s most characterful old-vine sites. This hands-on, vineyard-to-bottle approach results in wines that are authentic, expressive, and drinkable.
Sourced primarily from old, bush-pruned vines averaging 40 years of age, with some parcels exceeding a century, this Zinfandel is rooted in Sonoma’s top appellations, including Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley and Alexander Valley. The blend is led by Zinfandel, supported by a small proportion of complementary varieties to add depth and complexity.
Careful winemaking enhances the wine’s natural richness and vibrancy: the grapes are hand-harvested, gently handled, and undergo a cold soak to build aromatic intensity. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak, using a mix of barrel sizes and ages to balance structure with purity of fruit.
Lush and inviting, with aromas of boysenberry, cassis and ripe plum, layered alongside cocoa nib and sweet spice. The palate is silky yet vibrant, packed with blackberry, raspberry and strawberry fruit, framed by soft tannins. A subtle thread of mint and black pepper adds lift, while a deep, chocolatey core carries through to a long, velvety finish.
Perfect with barbecued meats, slow-cooked ribs, hearty pasta dishes or mature cheeses, a generous, crowd-pleasing red built for the table.
