G.D. Vajra's style is one that keeps the winery at the top of the game. Bright fruit and powerful perfumed nose, this classic Barolo sticks to the style.
We are really excited to be able to offer so many Piemonte wines at the moment, they have had a run of delicious vintages. Vajra is a producer we have stocked for many years, as they make such approachable, elegant wines, even when young. We have just received a small amount of stock of Barolo Albe, from the much talked about 2016 vintage. 2016 has received lots of attention already, and looks like it will be one of the best vintages the region has had in decades.
Aldo heads up this estate in the village of Vergne in the commune of Barolo. It was established in 1972 and is named after his grandfather G.D. Vajra. This wine is made from fruit grown in three different sustainably farmed vineyards. The fruit is hand harvested and sorted, the wine is fermented in steel to preserve the fresh fruit flavours. It is then aged in large Slavonian barrels for 30 months.
2016 was considered an almost perfect vintage, it was also one of the longest on record resulting in a generous harvest of top quality fruit. These are wines which have immediate appeal but will also last for many years. This wine has plenty of red fruits and rose aromas, with elegant tannins and acidity, it's a very classy and enjoyable wine.
