Alain Chavy is a charming, genial yet modest man, and who wouldn’t be with 13 hectares of vineyard, in and around Puligny Montrachet, including an impressive range of premier crus, and a beautiful house a few steps from his ‘cave’, with Le Montrachet its backdrop. His wines are textbook Puligny, with great elegance and minerality, powerful, impressive, yet refined and not overstated.
The Bourgogne Chardonnay is a mini-Puligny, with the grapes coming from vineyards adjacent to Puligny-Montrachet, and is now 100% vinified in oak. Alain is more and more using 400 litre barrels and fewer barriques for all his wines.
