Aube is Champagne’s most southerly and until-recently-least-fashionable growing region. It's grapes have traditionally been undervalued by the rest of Champagne, largely due to geography (its vineyards are actually closer to Chablis than to Reims or Épernay). But actually, Aube has used this distance to its advantage. The region has been less swayed by the tide of tradition in Champagne, which is why grower-producers started springing up here way before the term became fashionable in the Marne.
The Germar family have been cultivating the vineyards of Aube since the 50s. In 1989 Laurent Breton, youngest among his brothers, together with his wife Karine Breton decided launch their own winemaking activity in the Côte des Bars area near the village of Colombé-la-Fosse. In 2005, eager to develop their own Champagne, they decided to launch “Champagne Germar Breton”.
This 100% Chardonnay is a delicate cuvée with finesse and lightness. Fresh and fine with a tight texture.

Whilst packing up to move internationally a friend died and I needed to organise an emergency case of something luscious to support the wake. Not only did their wonderful team organise and deliver within an incredibly tight deadline they drafted a message for me too which I approved. Wonderful!!

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
