Huber Riesling Berg Erste Lage 2013

£47.50 GBP

There have been ten generations of Hubers making wine in Austria's Traisental, and the results have never been finer. Markus Huber took over with a vision to establish Huber internationally as one of the region's top names. With ageworthy and elegant wines like this in his range, he is undoubtedly succeeding.

Traisental is traditionally Gruner Veltliner country, but Riesling grows beautifully in its fast-draining, limestone-rich gravel soils, developing an ethereal mineral profile alongside its trademark acidic structure.

This Riesling, from premium Erste Lage sites, shows an added layer of textural complexity from eight months' lees ageing in acacia barrels. Its finesse hasn't dimmed after nearly a decade in bottle - the zippy citrus acidity still shines bright. But now, riper stone fruits like peach and mirabelle plums have now joined the party, together with those trademark petrol notes. This is a wine really coming into its own.
