Livio Felluga Sharis 2019

£22.95 GBP

I was going to put in a Silence of the Lambs quote referring to Clarise, which sounds like Sharis, but it started to look a bit too sinister.

Livio Felluga is back in the house, Butler has been a fan of this producer for many years, but recently they have slipped off our radar.

Livio Felluga emigrated from Istria in the 1950s and established his winery in Colli Friuli, Fruili Venezia, north east Italy. He had the forethought and opportunity to buy vineyards, so they now have parcels of very old vines. Family Felluga have been a flagship producer making some of the best white wines in Italy, consistently. There have been many years where lots of Italian wineries were making large quantities of dilute, bland wine, Felluga were never interested in joining that gang.

They use international varieties such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, and also local grapes such as Ribolla Gialla and Pinot Grigio. The Sharis is a blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Ribolla Gialla. The fruit macerates for a short period, before it is fermented in stainless steel and allowed to rest on its lees for six months.

This is such a delicious wine, it's luxuriant, luscious and full of tangy fruit. It invites you into the glass and gives you a lip smacking cuddle, it is amazing how they can squeeze so much flavour into a bottle. It's worth buying for the label alone.
