In the 18th century the Marquis de Segur said “I make wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is at Calon”
We love it too.
Ch Calon Segur, is one of the oldest and most famous Chateau in Bordeaux. It is based in the small commune of St Estephe, on the Medoc side of Bordeaux. It is a large wine farm, made up of several buildings, gardens and parcels of vines, around the main Chartreuse chateau building.
Although this is a very traditional producer, with a long wine making history, they are also at the forefront, using technology to help reduce the use of sulphur, and make the vineyards more sustainable.
We have Le Marquis de Calon, which is their second wine. You get the same winemaking expertise, and a friendlier price tag. It is dominated by the Cabernet Sauvignon, typical of vineyards planted on gravelly soil, topped up with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. 2016 is an excellent vintage, the wines are generous and fleshy, this Bordeaux wine is a delight already.
