Aldo Conterno are one of the great winemakers, and this isn't said lightly. They have been at the forefront of making top class wines since the 1700s. Aldo's grandfather started the winery officially in 1908 in Piemonte, grandsons Aldo and Giovanni worked in the winery until 1969 when they went in separate directions.
Aldo's sons now run the business, and over the years have deliberately heavily reduced the production, to focus on quality. The estate is best known for their Barolo wines, some of which we have, this is their very rare white wine, made from just three hectares of vines on the Bussia hill, in the heart of Barolo. 2016 was a cool vintage for this particular wine, the fruit was allowed to ripen slowly and steadily, without any major problems. The wine is fermented and aged in French oak barrels for a few months, and is then further aged for a year in the bottle. This is rich and concentrated, but also very elegant and balanced, a very complex wine. A very rare and special treat.
