We have noticed an increase in the demand for New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs recently, not a style we have a huge range of but we've found this one and think its great value and delivers what people hope and expect from this style of Sauvignon.
The fruit used to make the Ribbonwood is sourced from a selection of nine Wairau Valley vineyards, each bringing their own characteristics to the wine.
The vines in their original Ribbonwood Block, are planted in an unusual east-west direction, which allows for shading on the south side of the rows. This enhances the gooseberry aromatics in the fruit.
There is also a tiny amount of Chardonnay, Riesling and Gewurztraminer blended in which add texture and additional aromatics.
The wine is full of fruit and aroma - citrus, currant, gooseberry but it also has a clean, stony minerality. Not heavy on the alcohol, it's the ideal wine for drinking chilled on its own or with the seasonal asparagus, salads or seafood.
