Of the last blocks of Fernao left in the Cape this is the oldest at 30-something years old. It was originally grown for yield and brandy but then fell out of favour. Naturally abundant in gently aromatic, fleshy fruit 2018 in particular performed well in this Breede River Valley vineyard. Grenache Blanc was then added to the Fernao to increase the lovely fruit and rounded mouthfeel.
A mineral nose of crushed granite, peach kernel and petrichor. On the palate the sandy seam underpins stone-fruit skins. The wine finishes tight and bright. It works well with coconut infused curry, fish with a mango salad, pan roasted chicken etc.
