The Agricola Marrone winery is based in the famous village of La Morra, Barolo. The family has been working in the area for 4 generations now, and have built a reputation for creating expressive and powerful wines.
This wine is from the Langhe, which is a larger area in Piedmont, producing wines which are drinkable when young, and more affordable than some of the prestigious nearby villages such as Barolo or Barbaresco.
The Marrone Langhe Nebbiolo undergoes malolactic fermentation and a gentle 6 months of oak aging in large barrels. This softens the tannins and acidity, and has allowed the juicy fruit to take the lead. This might be referred to as a baby Barolo, but we prefer to see it as a quality wine in its own right. It shows off what the Nebbiolo grape can achieve by a skilled winemaker.
There is intensity and intrigue in this young wine, with rose petals, tobacco and cherry fruit. Ideally suited to the cuisine of the area - game meats, salami and hard cheeses.
