Botanica Wines was founded in 2009 by owner and self-taught winemaker Ginny Povall, an intrepid American who fell in love with the beautiful Cape winelands, purchased Protea Heights farm in Stellenbosch’s Devon Valley and relocated to the southern tip of Africa in 2008.
These beautiful wines don't just look nice, they taste delicious! They come from Botanica wines in South Africa where winemaker and all round excellent lady Ginny Povall runs not only a wonderful organic and sustainable winery, but also the Protea Heights farm which was the first farm in South Africa to cultivate indigenous protea flowers which bloom throughout the year.
The labels are inspired by this horticultural history.
Arboretum is her flagship wine crafted from the fruit of the organically farmed estate vineyards in Devon Valley, Stellenbosch. It is a Bordeaux blend comprising of the best barrels the vintage gives. The name celebrates the botanical collection of trees that graces Botanica’s home, Protea Heights Farm.
This is a very tasty red, its full of rich, ripe dark fruits, cherry, creamy oak and spice. For anyone who likes Bordeaux but wants something to drink now which will warm you on these cold evenings, this is the wine for you.
