Annual production remains tightly limited at around 5,000 cases, with the majority allocated to long-standing mailing list customers. Betz works closely with trusted growers across Washington’s finest AVAs, including Yakima Valley, Red Mountain, Horse Heaven Hills and Snipes Mountain, often selecting specific rows and individual vines. The region’s sunny, dry climate and phylloxera-free soils allow vines to be planted on their own roots, contributing to purity and site expression.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe grapes for La Serenne come from the celebrated Boushey Vineyard, the coolest and highest-altitude of Betz’s Syrah sources. In the cellar, the fruit was fermented in open-top fermenters, gently extracted over six to eight days before basket pressing and transfer to barrel. Malolactic fermentation and 12 months ageing in 50% new French oak add structure and subtle spice without masking the purity of the fruit.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn the glass, La Serenne shows a deep red-black core with a vibrant rim. The palate is dense and serious, built around firm yet finely detailed tannins. Dark berry fruit, savoury undertones and a sense of coiled energy suggest a wine just beginning to stretch its legs. While La Serenne is often reserved in its youth, the 2014 already hints at generosity and refinement, promising considerable complexity with time in bottle.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA superb partner for slow-braised lamb, game, beef short ribs or herb-crusted venison.
