One of Montalcino's shining lights, Biondi-Santi has consistently been producing exceptional wines for centuries. The estate is now with the sixth and seventh generations, steered by the guiding hand of Christopher Descours (owner of esteemed Champagne houses Charles Heidsieck, Piper Heidsieck and Rare). He bought a controlling stake in 2016, and is investing in the modernisation of vineyards and winery.
Wine Enthusiast awarded the 2013 Brunello 98 points in 2019, but we think 2021 is the year this superstar wine will start hitting its stride. It has so much finesse and fragrance, with a heady floral bouquet and snappy red fruit (cherries and pomegranate) now joined by leather, anise and some truffly forest floor notes. Polished tannins and jaunty acidity hold everything beautifully in place, and will continue to do so over the next 10-15 years.
