This is a rare and exclusive wine.
Pieter Walser first made his 100% Mourvedre wine in 2007. The South African Mourvedre vines were originally cultivated in Spain where the variety is better known as Monastrell, hence the wine was dubbed ‘The Spaniard’.
For the 2020 vintage he has revisited this variety and sourced the fruit from a rugged Swartland vineyard on the Riebeeck mountains. The bush vines grow in Schist soils and he has produced a wine with pure-elegance, and a mouth-watering finish. 30% of the wine is aged in new oak for soft, juicy, roundness. He was only allowed to buy one ton of fruit, so only three barrels of this wine were made!
