We often drink different wines in different seasons, Gewurztraminer seems to be popular in the autumn and winter, whereas lighter wines are preferred in the summer months. In general Gewurztraminer is full bodied and luscious, and Sorg certainly makes a luxuriant style. It can often feel like it is going to be sweet due to the intense spicy fruit flavours, but this one finishes dry.

Bruno Sorg is based in the northern, pretty region of Alsace. Alsace is known for making intense white wines, and some light red wines, all packaged in Alsatian flute bottles and they are conveniently labelled after the grape variety they are made from. Bruno established the estate in 1970, they are based in Eguisheim, just south of Colmar. His son Francois is now in charge and makes the wines.

They have 10 hectares made up of small parcels of vines, half of them are Grand Cru status. They are a first rate producer, and try to make their wines without chemical intervention. They specialise in making a richer style of wine, and this is no exception. It is very aromatic, floral and spicy, the wine coats the mouth and has a long finish. This would be very good with pate or smoked salmon.
