Cantina di Valpantena is one of Italy's very best cooperatives - our customers have been enjoying its Alpha Zeta Amarone della Valpolicella for a number of years. Now we've got our hands on its little cousin, in the shape of this fruit-packed half-bottle.
The cantina makes its best wines under the Torre del Falasco label and this Valpolicella originates in some of its best vineyards, planted in chalky hillside soils. These hardy vines put their all into ripening their grapes, resulting in concentrated, intense fruit flavours in the wine.
It's youthful, but far riper and more alluring than many less interesting Valpolicellas. The classic cherry and almond aromas are all present and correct, but those cherries are darker and sweeter, while the tannins are lovely and round.
Really comes into its own with grilled vegetable dishes after half an hour in the fridge.
