Castello di Ama Montebuoni Chianti Classico Riserva 2019

Castello di Ama stands as one of Tuscany's foremost and historically significant estates, celebrated for its pioneering contributions and a storied reputation for crafting exceptional wines. Nestled in Gaiole, within the subregion of Chianti Classico, this estate boasts 76 hectares of vineyards. Today, it is under the stewardship of Lorenza Sebasti, a descendant of one of the original four families, and Marco Pallanti, one of Italy's most esteemed winemakers. Together, they have embarked on a journey of reinvestment in the estate, renewing old vineyards and constructing a state-of-the-art winery.

The Montebuoni vineyard, spanning 14.5 hectares, underwent re-planting by Castello di Ama in 1997. The grapes are carefully hand-harvested in late August to early September. Sangiovese and Merlot are vinified separately, using indigenous yeasts, within temperature-controlled steel tanks ranging from 28°C to 30°C. The Sangiovese character is enhanced through manual pumping over. The blending of these grape varieties takes place after malolactic fermentation. Subsequently, the wine is meticulously refined in second-passage oak barriques with a fine grain for approximately 12 months before being bottled in the spring.

The resulting wine is delightfully fruit-forward, presenting a symphony of blackberry, raspberry, blueberry, and currant notes. Its elegance and balance are striking, culminating in a lingering finish that leaves a lasting impression on the palate.
