Catena Alta Chardonnay 2018

£21.00 GBP

There's way more to Mendoza than Malbec. The big reds may get all the headlines but more and more people are switching on to the brilliance of Mendoza whites too. Here's a textbook example from one of the country's most iconic producers.

Nicolas Catena Zapata was the Argentine trailblazer who first realised the potential that lay higher up the slopes of the Andes. He began planting vines at high altitudes in the early 80s and almost single-handedly kickstarted the Mendoza wine revolution.

Over the next 40 years Catena Zapata have honed site selection to a fine art, so this Chardonnay comes from the perfectly suited calcereous soils of the Adrianna vineyard, 5000ft up the Andean foothills. That altitude helps retain beautiful fruit purity and minerality in the wine, with a lovely round texture added by a year or so in large oak barrels. Utterly delicious.
