Château Puybarbe is located in the heart of the Côtes de Bourg appellation, on the right bank of the Gironde just across the water from Margaux.
In 2014 the 35 hectare estate was taken on by Finnish couple Riku et Anna Väänänen. They retained the winemaker and the majority of the existing estate team, maintaining the high standards and reputation of this prime location. They are working to biodynamic and organic farming practices and hope to be certified in the near future.
Chateau Puybarbe's flagship wine is blend of Merlot 54%, Cabernet Sauvignon 42%, with small percentages of Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Is is a full-body wine, aged 18 months in French oak barrels. It boasts dark and powerful fruit, blackberries and black cherries with a hit of spice. The tannins are bold and will soften with age.
