Château des Antonins Bordeaux Blanc 2019 37.5cl

£6.99 GBP

There's so much to like about this little bottle from a family-run estate south of Graves. The estate has been in the hands of the de Roquefeuil family since the 1850s, with the recent developments including a move to sustainable viticulture and the return from New Zealand of prodigal son Antoine to take up the post of head winemaker in 2016.

Both of these factors contribute to the quality of this beautifully textured Bordeaux white. The fruit comes from a small plot of lovingly tended vines and every decision in the winery has been made in service of quality.

The harvested Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon grapes are left with their skins for 24 hours to soak up extra aromatics before pressing. Cool stainless steel fermentation keeps the core fruit flavours fresh and focused, before a few weeks of lees stirring adds complexity and that all-important texture.

The resulting wine fills the mouth with tangy grapefruit, white peach and some lovely herbal notes, sliding into a fresh, juicy finish that lingers impressively. Clean, elegant and delicious.
