When Bernard and Cécile Croisille first leased 7 hectares of vineyards in Cahors in 1979 the site was in such disrepair it took until 1984 before they made their first harvest. Until 1994 they sold their crop to the local co-operative, but their ambition was always to make their own wine. When Germain, their son, joined the business in 2008 they really pushed on in quality, and he encouraged their conversion to organic farming completed in 2010.
The Cocoricot is a wine made with zero sulphites, which can be tricky and result in funky or flawed wines, but they have executed the style to perfection. A blend of equal parts Malbec and Merlot, made using the carbonic maceration technique and aged in concrete tanks.
Super juicy and vibrant, definitely unlike the rustic and hard wines formerly associated with southwest France. Violet, blackberry and blueberry notes, light tannins and fresh acidity make for a delightfully drinkable style.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome.
