Ben Haines, a thoughtful and soft-spoken winemaker, honed his skills at Mount Langi Ghiran, an acclaimed Grampians estate known for its top-notch Shiraz. In 2020, he began bottling wines under his own name, sourcing fruit from trusted friends in the Grampians and Yarra Valley. His star continues to rise with each vintage, driven by his passion for cool-climate vineyards and sustainable farming practices.
Ben’s 2022 Pinot Noir is a striking example of his style, light to medium-bodied and impeccably structured. The wine is brilliantly scented with piquant red fruit, wild herbs, and fragrant earthy spices. The clarity and detail are exceptional, humming with intensity, yet the wine maintains a graceful balance. Sourced from the Nine One Six Vineyard, a site known for its distinct micro-climate, this Pinot delivers a beautifully complete expression of the variety, all while maintaining a modest 11.2% abv.

Whilst packing up to move internationally a friend died and I needed to organise an emergency case of something luscious to support the wake. This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
