Everyday is a fizz day, and this is a little beauty. It is a Cremant de Bourgogne and comes from Beaujolais in France. It is owned and made by the Sambardier family, who have been farming in this region for several generations. They now have about 35 hectares amongst the hills of southern Beaujolais, just above Denice. They produce a range of wines, reds, whites and this delicious sparkling wine.
The French Cremant wines were legally recognised in the mid 1970s. The term Cremant followed by a geographical region is there to represent quality sparkling wines, which aren't Champagne but are considered much better than just standard Vin Mousseux wines.
This Cremant de Bourgogne is made from 100% Chardonnay and spends 18 months on the lees. It has a low dosage, so it is elegant and crisp, but also has soft fruit flavours and toasty notes. It's a well made, very drinkable sparkling wine for this price.
